Bong can’t believe that Gyokeres is a top striker

Former Brighton defender Ketan Bong has revealed he didn’t feel he could become a top striker when he first saw Victor Gyokeres.

The Cameroon international left-back was with the Seagulls from 2015-20 and previously linked up with Gyokeres, who joined the club in 2018, but failed to impress and was loaned out to St Pauli, Swansea and Coventry before leaving in 2021, with Bong describing Gyokeres’ skills as “average”.

“Everyone who knew him from his time in England will tell you the same thing. He’s a good striker who’s always fighting, but he’s got a lot of flaws,” Bong told Ufabet Sport. “There’s no indication he’s going to explode one day.”

“I remember seeing this guy walk into the dressing room and he didn’t look very interesting. It was a surprise to see him there because Brighton are use to bringing in players who are fast and good on the ball in that position. He’s already a very intimidating figure.”

“But how to put it… In terms of technique and finishing, he’s… very ordinary. For example, he’s not even on the level of Glenn Murray, our starting เล่นบาคาร่า UFABET เว็บตรง ค่าคอมสูง number nine.”

Gyökeres’ record is, frankly, ludicrous. He has scored 69 goals in 68 games for Sporting in all competitions and has quietened some of the scepticism around that record based on the dubious strength of Portugal’s Primeira Liga by becoming a prolific finisher for Sweden, plundering 15 goals from 26 appearances to date.
